Finds in Saqqara 4 June 2008

The missing sections of a Sphinx lined road and the bottom part of a pyramid have been unearthed in Saqqara.
The road may probably lead to a temple dedicated to the god Anubis, the dog headed god who was believed by the Ancient Egyptians to guide oversee the mummification of the deceased and to guide them into the netherworld.

Although some Egyptologists propose a more recent date, the pyramid could belong to Menkauhor, a 5th Dynasty king whose burial site has remained hidden to this date. The materials used and the pyramid's substructure would point more toward the 5th Dynasty.
The pyramid had already been visited in the 19th Century, but its exact location was lost until its recent discovery. Inside the burial chamber, a white limestone block was found which may be the northern wall of the chamber, as well as the lid of a sarcophagus and a pit used for the chest containing the canopic jars.
